Olivia Ferguson grew up in Bellingham, WA.
She went to Gonzaga University for a year and a half and then transferred to Western Washington University excited to experience
her home in a new way. She studied Spanish and French and loved it but felt a strong pull to do something creative. She didn’t think it was possible to study art and decided to get her Certificate in Graphic design as a happy medium between art and practicality. She enjoyed Graphic design and would get lost for hours on the illustrations she created for her class projects. She had fun creating layouts and logos but creating illustrations for posters and books really called her attention. At the end of her certificate, she bought a tablet and began using procreate to finally put the images in her head into fruition.
Olivia enjoys showing the flora and fauna that make up important and loved ecosystems wherever she is. From the farm she worked on in Kauai she began to see these new animals and plants as comforting friends and hopes to portray that image to people who
view her art. Now back in Washington she has been enjoying connecting on a more personal level with the animals and plants in this area. Through her stream restoration work she has been able to take a closer look at the ecosystems that make up Whatcom
County and have a more intimate relationship with the beings that play such important roles in our lives, seen and unseen. Through organic shapes and color, she tries to portray this up close relationship and show the liveliness in still frames.
In her spare time, she loves to surf around the Puget Sound and coast of Washington, ski and read books. She spends time gardening and loves to be at home with her roommates and cat. She looks forward to creating more chances to make art in the
future and to view the world in a more unique and magical way through these creations.
